It is no secret anymore that I have a bad case of dark circles. If you have read one of my recent posts on how I deal my dark circles, you know that I have attempted a few lifestyle changes to reduce those bad boys. But one of the most temporary and fulfilling solution is to cover them up with makeup (till the good effects of lifestyle changes kick in). Many of you have been curious about the Bobbi Brown Corrector that I have been using. So here is a detailed review as promised:

The product: Bobbi Brown Corrector is a colour correcting product that is aimed to neutralise the discolouration under the eyes. It is infused with peach/pink pigments that counteract the dark undertones in the periorbital (around eye) area. Designed specifically for the delicate under eye area, it is also waterproof and crease resistant.

How is this different from a concealer? Concealers are generally meant to cover up discolouration, pigmentation marks, rashes, acne etc. but when it comes to under eyes and heavy dark circles, ordinary skin-toned concealers created for the face are simply not enough. One needs a product that is designed specifically for neutralising the area first, which means reducing the blue/brown hues to a considerable extent before making use of a concealer to even out the area.

Ever found your under eye area looking grey? This can be a problem if you have heavy under eye circles and if you use a skin toned concealer straight away without correcting the area first. Result? The under eye looks ashy and instantly aged. It is important to counteract the pigmentation first in order to reduce the darkness and to make the area look one with the rest of the face.

Colour fact: Consider a simple colour wheel, note that opposite colours in the spectrum neutralise one another. For example, if you have a lot of redness on your face, a green corrector will counter the red. Similarly for concealing blue (that is often seen in dark circles, veins etc.) orange does a neat job of cancelling the hue. Hence for very dark under eye circles, peachy-orangy tones are generally recommended that are a shade or 2 darker than your natural skin tone.

Red lipstick trick? A few of you have asked me about the red lipstick trick. Honestly I am not for it simply because the under eye area is very delicate and I would not recommend using a product that is not specifically meant to be used in that area. No doubt that the red in a lipstick will do a similar job of colour correcting, but if you have really bad circles and looking for a more reliable solution, I suggest investing in a good corrector instead of using a lipstick.

How to use the Bobbi Brown Corrector: The corrector is pretty thick. So if you are expecting to glide this on like a cream, it is not going to happen. How I like to use this is to dot it gently around my eyes in 3-5 dots and blend it with my fingers using patting motion. The patting motion is important so that you don’t pull the delicate under eye area but carefully place the corrector where required. I usually repeat the steps on the areas that need more coverage. The corrector is super blendable and layering it is not a  problem at all. On some days I leave it as it is for a more natural look and finish off with my usual foundation over it. But on days when I want to look flawless, I pair it with my trusted MAC Select Moisture Cover concealer in NC42. The Bobbi Brown Corrector does not crease on me but the MAC concealer does; therefore it becomes imperative to dust a light powder over these products to minimise creasing and fading throughout the day.

The colour: Dark Peach. This product is aptly named, it is a true peach but on the darker side. Before buying this shade, I tried a bunch of other colours at the store, but this shade worked perfectly for me. This colour is a ‘no match’ for my face (as my face is between NC35-40 at the moment) and it did feel intimidating at first, but for the purpose of correcting those dark circles, it is a match made in heaven!

The packaging: Encased in a small plastic container, it is perfect for travelling. It also has a mirror inside, which makes it super convenient to use on the go.

The price and availability: This baby is expensive! Not gonna lie, I was expecting more product for the price I paid but again, this product is so good that paying all that money feels worth it now. It is priced at Rs 2450 for 1.4 grams. I bought mine from the Bobbi Brown store at the Ambience Mall, Gurgaon.

Verdict: I love this corrector. It has become my go-to product as far as face makeup is concerned. It hides my dark circles very well, makes me look younger and well rested each time I use it. Would I recommend it? Hell yes!! Because it is a wonderful product specially designed for covering dark circles, gentle enough to be used under the eyes. I am thankful to Bobbi Brown for designing a shade array that works so well with most Indian skin tones.

Hope you found this helpful. I will be back with a new post soon. I am currently in the process of shifting my house and it is a rather difficult job! I love you guys, thank you for your support!

My dark circles are way too dark that this wasn’t enough. I am currently using Kryolan’s orange twist up corrector.
